Peter: Do you ever just think about evolution?

This was the question posed to me by Peter while we were waiting for the American Idol finale to begin. A pretty heavy question for the evening ahead of us.

Me: Well, yeah.

I thought it would end there, Taylor Hicks would sing that awesome Bruce Springstein song, we would see some guest appearances by Chris Daughtry (Hurray!), Taylor Hicks would be announced the winner, he would sing again - his new single this time, and we would all go on with our lives. For me, that meant running to the store in the rain and making a lasagna for dinner tomorrow night.

Peter: Doesn't it just blow your mind?

This question required a pause for thought.

Me: Well, yeah.

This answer got Peter really into the conversation - he even sat up a little straighter. By the way, Peter is a science teacher. Because I watched one of Little Peter's shows recently, I could add more.

Me: I mean think about it, the DNA of chimps is actually more closely matched to humans than gorillas. Mind blowing.

Peter: Yeah. American Idol is on.

Me: Doesn't it just blow your mind that more people vote for American Idol than President?

Peter: Yeah. We should have voted for Chris Daughtry.

Me: Yeah.
